What is Health + Han?

Hi! My name is Hannah Richardson and I am the owner of this website you've stumbled upon . Health + Han was designed to help people on their fitness journey and further my reach to people outside of the DC area (where I currently reside). The idea came to me after about 10 of my college teammates reached out to me wanting strength training plans. How could I help these people that now live thousands of miles away from me? Create online programs.

Let me back up and tell you a little about myself. I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Once I entered high school (Kirkwood High School), I decided to pursue running to help stay in shape for soccer. And that was the beginning of the end of my soccer days. I fell in love with track and cross country. I began to excel in high school, taking 6th in the state for cross country and several second and third place finished at the state track meet. At this point I knew I wanted to run in college.

And where did I decide to go to college? None other than the lovely Lawrence, Kansas, home of the Jayhawks. Rock Chalk baby.

And I loved every minute of it. I ran cross country and track for the University of Kansas. While at the University of Kansas, I picked up two All-American titles, 3 school records (which I believe 2 have been broken), and many second and third place finished at the Big XII Conference meets. I also completed an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology in my first four years. My fifth year of school (I chose to stay so I could keep competing in track and cross country) I completed a master's degree. Yes, I completed a master's degree in one year. It was as difficult as it sounds.

And yet, that last year of college I had the most running success that I've had in my life. I ran a personal best of 20:30 for 6k at the Midwest Regional Cross Country Meet (missing National's by a couple spots). My teammates and I broke the Kansas school record for the Distance Medley Relay at 11:01 (with Riley Cooney, Whitney Adams, and Nicole Montgomery). We went on to the Indoor Track and Field National Championship where we placed 7th in the nation, becoming first team All-Americans. And I broke the school record in the 3,000 meters at the Big XII Indoor Track and Field Championships, where I took second in 9:16.

After having so much success in college, I wasn't sure where to go in life. I had to stop running due to injury. I had a Bachelor's in Exercise Science and a Master's in Sport Management. But I had no idea what to do with these. So I pursued coaching. I went back to St. Louis, Missouri and coached at Ladue High School for one season. Then I moved out to D.C. Needless to say, high school coaching wasn't for me.

In D.C., I picked up a 9-5 desk job at a local non-profit organization. After a year of desk work, I began to get antsy and pursued personal training on the side. I would go to the gym at 6 AM before my full time job, work at my full time job for 8 hours, then head back to the gym to train more clients. I looked forward to the time with my clients the most, so I knew that pursuing this field was where my career was headed.

I got my NSCA-CPT in March 2019 and began taking on clients shortly after. Within one month, I was able to pick up 7 clients. From here, my personal training career took off. In November 2019, I began working at a second gym and couldn't work at my full time non-profit job for much longer. I quit that in February 2020 and here we are. Full time personal trainer, group fitness instructor, DEXA and RMR Specialist, and nutrition specialist.

I love what I do and wanted to do even more of it so I decided to create Health + Han. Health + Han focuses on whole-person health. Many fitness accounts and wellness accounts focus just on training. I am here to support you as a whole person and understand that lifestyle and other needs and wants can sometime get in the way of where we want to go. I am here to help on all fronts. I will support you emotionally and mentally, and hold you accountable for your nutrition and workouts.

If this sounds like something you want, contact me! I am currently taking on new clients and looking for more wonderful people to train. Let's get you where you want to be!
